Abstract

In the machine shop, practical engineering and manufacturing skills were able to be used through a variety of design and fabrication projects. By using industry standard equipment, such as computer numerical control (CNC) machining and computer aided design (CAD) software, including Fusion 360, functional components and finished products were able to be created and produced. Some projects included: designing and machining custom wooden signs, fabricating parts to specifications, and assisting in the construction of an intermittent respirometry system. While using precise measurements, machining, selective materials, and using iterative design throughout these projects, quality control and safety were able to be achieved. Additionally, aspects of engineering such as 3D printing and welding were incorporated in the various projects previously stated. Through the applications listed above, the engineering design process was able to be met by using iterative design, fabrication, and teamwork to produce reliable solutions.
