Effective July 1, 2026, the College of Professional Sciences will become the College of Health and Human Sciences.

This change reflects both the evolution of the college and Xavier's strategic priorities. It aligns directly with the University's Strategic Plan, particularly the Cura Studiorum priority to “deepen our academic excellence through bold leadership in health and biomedical sciences.” The new name also supports the University's Health Integration initiative, launched this year to strengthen a flourishing Xavier Health ecosystem grounded in our Jesuit Catholic mission and values.

The former name did not clearly communicate the disciplines and professions represented within the college and made it difficult for prospective students, families, and external stakeholders to understand the college's academic focus. The abbreviation “CPS” also created recurring confusion with Cincinnati Public Schools, particularly for the College's School of Education programs.

The new name, College of Health and Human Sciences, more accurately reflects the breadth of academic programs housed within the college while allowing flexibility for future growth. The health component of the name highlights programs that prepare students to support physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being. The human sciences component encompasses disciplines dedicated to understanding how people make decisions, interact, learn, develop, and lead.

Across all disciplines, the College of Health and Human Sciences prepares students to change human lives for the better and lead bigger lives through meaningful student-faculty mentoring and teacher-learner relationships and required experiential learning in 100% of the College's undergraduate and graduate programs. Under its new name, CHHS will continue to equip students to be ethical decision makers, critical thinkers, and servant-leaders who advance their professions, live out our Jesuit Catholic mission, and create community wherever they serve, in the region and beyond.
