Description
This statue was a gift to Xavier University from the citizens of the southern French city of Auch (D’Artagnan’s fictional birthplace). In Auch’s town square the original seven foot statue stands. Mrs. Joseph Bourgeois, the wife of the former chair of Xavier’s Modern Languages Department, visited Auch in the summer of 1964. She told Auch’s officials about XU’s Musketeers. The city commissioned a sculptor to make a three foot high copy of its leading citizen.
