Pre-Service Teachers and Parent Involvement: Using the Child, Family and Schools Course to Inform Practice
Abstract
There is consistent evidence suggesting a strong association between parent involvement and student success in school. Therefore, the need for teacher preparation programs to equip pre-service teachers on strategies of working with parents cannot be overlooked. This manuscript discusses a project which assessed the extent to which pre service teachers in a teacher education course gained a deeper understanding of parent involvement through real life experiences working directly with families. The project was completed as part of the requirements for a course offered for pre-service teachers working towards their early childhood licensure.
