Abstract

Sexual assault has been found to be on the rise and a solution needs to be developed to ensure that victims receive appropriative supportive care. Some facilities do not have enough resources to care for these victims that they have to send them out to outside facilities to have a forensic exam completed. In 2018, research should that the number of women who were victims of sexual assault raised from 4.3% to 6.2% (Acousta, Chinman, & Shearer, 2021). Sexual assaults in the military (one in 16 women & one in 143 men) will experience sexual assault during their career (Acousta, Chinman, & Shearer, 2021). Developing a Sexual Assault Response Teams (SARTs) can be beneficial in providing the right amount of support and resources to victims. The author focused on providing the support for the importance of creating a SART and the process on developing such a team. The process can take a while, but the benefits are shown to definitely pay off. One other of focus is having the right number of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs) to provide 24/7 care to sexual assault victims. The military has a two-week course specifically for creating SANEs. This program just needs to get promoted more. There are so many opportunities for growth when it comes to taking care of these victims and the resources are out there, they just have to be utilized.
