Abstract

The article discusses data warehouse architecture, exploring the question of which architecture is the best. The authors gathered 20 experts on the subject, the article indicates, including Bill Inmon and Ralph Kimball who advocate competingarchitectures. Different styles discussed include centralized (no depended data marts), federated, hub and spokearchitecture, bus architecture, and independent data marts. The enterprise-level analysis of data requirements and the lack of empirical data on warehouse architecture are also discussed.
