An Aesthetic Interpretation of the History of Indigenous People in the U.S: Art Project Assignment

Professor: ShaDawn Battle, PhD
Course Name: Intro to Gender and Diversity Studies: GDST 206-01/02

We will have explored the history of Indigenous people in the U.S. – more specifically, settler-native relations that are shaped by political conflicts, land expropriation, the "Othering" of Indigenous groups, and their resistance to Euro-American forces. We will have also discussed the politics of Indigenous people’s representation in popular art that seeks to demythologize their misrepresentations across history. Thus, for this project, your goal is to produce a work of art, yourselves, that lends expression to the experiences of Indigenous People in the U.S. It will consist of a pre-recorded, four-minute presentation and can be a rap, a poem, a dance, a painting, or drawing, a collage, a zine, etc.
