Abstract
This study examined residues 133-241 of the EMX1 homeodomain protein. This protein is important in telencephalon development in humans and irregularities in development can lead to defects in embryonic development of the cerebral cortex. The protein was successfully purified and a thermal shift assay was used to determine the thermal stability of the protein. SDS-PAGE revealed that our protein of interest was about 12.5 kD. Moving forward, an EMSA will be run to give insight into the binding affinity of the DNA and protein.
