Abstract

The purpose of the research study was to discover if adult clients at Central Clinic’s CDC location within the START program believed that having a peer mentor increased their self-motivation to complete the program. The START program (Sobriety, Treatment, and Reducing Trauma) has the overall goal of assigning “peer mentors and coaches to families with a substance use as a primary risk factor in their case”. This program is designed to teach skills to struggling families in order to keep them together. The participants of this research included adults currently enrolled in the START program. To obtain data, a short survey was provided to clients for them to self-report if their motivation was influenced by having a peer mentor.

Key Words: adult clients, self-motivations, peer mentors, substance use recovery
