Abstract
The athletic trainers at Saint Xavier High School currently do not have a documentation strategy when it comes to giving out over-the-counter medications in the athletic training room. Even though they give out these kinds of medications frequently, they do not have a system to keep track of who is getting what, what medications the athletes have already taken in the day, and when they are receiving it. The goal of this study was to implement a strategy for documentation that allows for the athlete to self-report and the athletic trainer to still have access to who is receiving medication. Through this, the athletic trainers would be able to see what medications the athletes are seeking, what they have taken, and what they need it for. They would also be able to see if they have taken anything throughout the day and what they had taken if so, and then they would be able to decide what the athlete needs and if they are comfortable distributing medication to them from that point. The main purpose of the study was to implement a QR code that when scanned took you to a Google Form document that the athlete could fill out with the appropriate information which would populate into a Google Sheets document that the sports medicine staff would be able to view. Overall, the study lacked compliance from the athletic training staff making the data retrieval quite difficult. I believe that as a whole it would be best for this project to be abandoned at Saint Xavier High School and a new form of over-the-counter medication documentation be implemented in its place.
