Collaborative Writing: How Technology has Impacted Individuals Thinking and Writing Skills

Abstract

This project will examine Collaborative writing and Technology and how they impact a person’s individual thinking and writing in the classroom. My research focuses on the positive impacts of working collaboratively rather than individually. It raises questions on if technology prevents people from being able to think for themselves when navigating complicated papers, texts, or projects. This matters since technology such as AI, more specifically ChatGPT has become a resource students often use to help them improve their writing and grammar skills. In my research, I will include an online survey I made on Google Forms where I gathered responses from undergraduate students from Xavier University and University of Cincinnati of their perceptions towards the Collaborative writing process and if technology has influenced their idea of writing in the classroom. Overall, this research will highlight the positive impacts of Collaborative writing and how some technology such as Google Docs has helped expand the practice of the collaborative process where more than one person can write and edit on the same document.
