Abstract

This study examines the relationship between social behavior and risk-taking activity among Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) players. Using data from a sample of 11,130 DraftKings users, this study analyzes whether players who engage in social behaviors like basically such as referring friends and having mutual friendships on the platform, and if they are more likely to exhibit higher risk-taking behavior in their contest selections. It is hypothesized that players who engage in more social behaviors will have higher player risk scores than those who do not. Understanding the connection between social influence and gambling risk behavior has important implications for responsible gambling practices and platform design.
