Abstract
This study explores how students describe their experiences with creative writing in school, with a focus on better understanding student voice in the language arts classroom. While previous research has looked at how creative writing can improve skills like critical thinking, this study focuses more on how students actually feel about and experience it. Data will be collected through a Google Forms survey given to about 80 seventh-grade students at a suburban middle school. The survey includes a mix of scaled questions to see general trends and open-ended questions that allow students to share their thoughts in their own words. These questions ask about students’ enjoyment of creative writing, how they feel when given these assignments, and whether they think it helps them express themselves. Although the data has not been collected yet, this study aims to better understand both the benefits and challenges of creative writing from the student perspective and help teachers make writing more meaningful and engaging.
