Abstract
As a senior in the English department, I needed to explore an occasion or thematic pattern of Conspiracy. I chose the scapegoating of the Rothschild family for the intentional sinking of the Titanic from the conspiratorial community. Despite zero financial connection to the boat itself, and J.P. Morgan's wallet and fingerprints being all over it, the Rothschilds are to blame and are an example of the invincible elites that can ruin normal citizens if they wish. I wish to interrogate what American sociopolitical fears are assuaged by the scapegoating, why the Rothschilds in particularly are a decades-long suspect in government control, and why their supposed connection to the Federal Reserve further incriminates them in the deaths of the ~1,500 people on the Titanic.
Deep Pockets Sink Ships: A Scapegoating of Titanic Proportions
