Abstract

Since the spring of 2025, I have worked with Xavier University Archives and Special Collections (XUASC) on processing the XUA-123 Director for Photography Records collection. This collection, made up of photographic negative slides depicting Xavier’s campus between 1960-2005, consisted of dozens of binders that needed to be rehoused and digitized to be properly entered into the Xavier archives. For my research presentation, I will be demonstrating my step-by-step process for rehousing, scanning, and recording metadata for slides within this collection. While the rehousing of photographic negatives better protects their physical existence, the digitization and compilation of metadata associated with these images makes them easily searchable and, therefore, more accessible to those with digital access. Throughout this long journey of archival processing comes the opportunity to showcase Xavier’s history, from the mundane to the extraordinary.
