Abstract
Book banning is a prevalent issue in the academic and political sphere in America. Books are taken from the shelves due to legislatures or academic administrators deeming them unsuitable to children. There is a range of ways books are taken from students, whether they are taken out of the classroom completely, age restricted, or requiring a parent signature indicating that their child is allowed to read a specific book. Ethically, the removal of certain books raises the question of whether it is protective to censor a student’s education or if it restricts an author’s freedom of speech and prevents the student from learning more. This perceptual study explores where college students lie on the scale of banning books from classrooms and libraries to allowing every student full access to every book.
