Abstract

This presentation aims to categorize different approaches to Japanese to English translation (and, occasionally, Korean to English); the contexts in which this matters; and which approaches people tend to prefer. 50 people were asked their opinions on 14 different comparisons between fan translations & official translations, and source heavy & adaptation heavy translations, in order to gauge what the general population prefers, as well as how familiarity with Japanese culture and media affects one’s opinion on the matter.
