Abstract
When looking at ways to teach English to those learning the language as a foreign
language, AI is one of the most controversial tools in academia. However, as a powerful tool that can provide automated feedback to students and learners of all ages, AI has the capabilities to play an important role in the future of the development of academic instruction for English language studies. In my research focused on university level students who utilize English as a foreign language, I have sought to assess the utility of AI in teaching English language composition, rhetoric, and grammatical function to better understand its capabilities as a global tool for English language instruction. Various AI tools surveyed for their effectiveness include ChatGPT, Duolingo, Babbel, Google Translate, Grammarly, Turnitin, and Google Gemini. This research seeks to contribute to global research done that seeks to understand how to teach English efficiently across regions and cultures.
