Abstract

To better understand how to overexpress and purify recombinant proteins, we performed purification of fluorescent proteins. The expression system used in this experiment to modify protein production utilized elements from the lac operon. The lac operon is critical for energy production in prokaryotic cells by facilitating the metabolism of lactose in the presence of low cellular glucose availability. Autoinduction media was utilized to induce the lac operon. Autoinduction promotes the expression of fluorescent proteins by supplying the cells with low levels of glucose and high levels of lactose. The eGFP protein was fully induced and expressed which was shown through a fluorescent green color, while the other proteins were not successfully expressed.
