Abstract

This paper expands on the issue of censorship in modern literature and society. Censorship is defined as the suppression or prohibition of any parts of books, films, news, etc. that are considered obscene, politically unacceptable, or a threat to security. Although the analysis does not propose a solution, as it is not easily solvable, we aim to discuss the range in which censorship has consumed the globe and the impacts on current culture. The research addresses topics such as the implications of censorship today including book bans and book challenges with quantitative and qualitative data in the form of a survey and in person interviews from anonymous participants spanning across multiple demographics. The results of the survey showed that the majority of people are familiar with censorship and are concerned with the potential negative effects that it may have on freedom of speech.
