Abstract

The impacts and effects of marijuana have been a topic that has been widely debated for many years in the United States. However, individual states have started to take matters into their own hands and legalize marijuana statewide, while other states have banned it altogether, and some fall right in the middle with only CBD. Throughout this research, I have looked at whether the legalization of marijuana has decreased incarceration rates throughout the country, focusing on state-specific laws. Using a combination of statistical analysis and literature review, we assess the impact of marijuana legalization on both state and federal incarceration rates. Other facts that have been considered are the percentage of people who are experiencing poverty as well as the percentage of American American people.
