Abstract
The incidence of type two diabetes is rising at an alarming rate in the United States. Research indicates that type two diabetes has an increased risk associated with poverty, Hispanic ethnicity, being non-Caucasian, poor educational attainment, and food insecurity. The current study used data from the 2019 National Health Interview Survey to assess the frequency of type two diabetes and its association with its risk factors. In the current study type two diabetes rates were significantly positively associated with an index of five risk factors (r=.106, p<0.01). No relationship was detected between type two diabetes and Hispanic ethnicity. As hypothesized, there was a relationship between type two diabetes, poverty, non-Caucasians, education, and food insecurity.
