Abstract
The Hispanic demographic is one of the fastest growing racial groups in the United States. For many years this demographic was a part of the Democratic Party’s political coalition. However, recent electoral cycles have revealed a growing trend of Hispanic voters shifting toward right-leaning political candidates and platforms. This study examines if Democratic policies regarding public safety are responsible for this demographic’s political migration towards the Republican Party. An analysis of sheriff political affiliations, crime statistics, racial populations, and voter trends, in the state of Texas provided this study with the data needed to reach a conclusion.
